At LAIRE, we believe that true digital success begins with a well-trained, HubSpot-savvy team.

As a HubSpot Certified Trainer, I’ve seen firsthand how proper HubSpot training can transform the way teams operate. It’s the cornerstone for unlocking potential, boosting efficiency, and driving measurable ROI for your business.

In the fast-paced world of marketing, sales, and service, it’s easy to fall into a “status quo mindset.” But curiosity — the drive to learn, challenge assumptions, and embrace innovation — is what truly sets top professionals apart.

James Everingham, VP of Engineering for Meta, put it perfectly in a LinkedIn post:

Wisdom is valuable — until it isn’t. The best decisions come not just from experience, but from staying curious, challenging assumptions, and staying open to new ideas.

This curiosity fuels the desire to learn and grow, especially when mastering tools like HubSpot. It’s what keeps us not only wise but ahead of the curve.

In this article, I’ll take you through my personal journey to becoming a HubSpot Certified Trainer and share best practices to empower your team with the skills they need to thrive. Let’s dive in!

Becoming a HubSpot Certified Trainer

Why Certification Matters

So, what exactly is a HubSpot Certified Trainer? A HubSpot Certified Trainer is a certified individual who ensures your team gets the most out of the HubSpot platform.

Having this certification indicates that your trainer can teach inbound and HubSpot according to the standards set by the HubSpot Academy.

Certification requirements for HubSpot trainers are constantly evolving, so it’s important to hire someone who stays up-to-date with the latest changes. The more informed and knowledgeable your trainer is, the better equipped your team will be to excel with the platform!

The benefits of working with a certified trainer include:

  • Expert-level knowledge
  • Structured training methodology
  • Ability to tailor HubSpot use for your company’s needs

Ultimately, investing in your business's future is one of the most reliable ways to unlock growth potential. That’s why I strongly encourage businesses to hire a HubSpot Trainer. A skilled trainer ensures your team is well-prepared to succeed with the platform — especially if it’s their first time using it!

My Journey to Certification

As a little bit of background, I’ve been using HubSpot since 2010, witnessing first-hand its incredible growth and evolution over the years.

After spending three years onboarding and training B2B teams, pursuing the HubSpot Certified Trainer Program felt like a natural next step — and I’m so glad I took the leap!

Here’s what the certification process entails:

  • Application and acceptance
  • Completing the Certified Trainer course
  • Submitting and passing a practicum

Having the HubSpot Trainer Certification ensures that our agency — and our clients — receive top-tier training backed by the latest insights and best practices across HubSpot’s Marketing, Sales, and Service Hubs.

How to Train Your Team on HubSpot

Next, I’ll walk you through the best strategies for training your team in HubSpot.

As a HubSpot admin, you’ll want to ensure your teams are fully prepared to hit the ground running while you seamlessly integrate the platform into your daily operations.

Certified HubSpot Trainer Insights- How to Train Your Team for Success-04-1

1. Build Awareness of HubSpot’s Capabilities

The first step in training your team is to help them grasp the full potential of what HubSpot has to offer. From blogging and email marketing to reporting and automation, it’s essential to provide your team with a solid understanding of the platform’s features.

It’s important to acknowledge that some team members may initially feel hesitant about adopting new tools. That’s completely natural.

However, by highlighting HubSpot’s full range of capabilities and demonstrating how it can simplify their workflows and make their jobs easier, you can transform that hesitation into genuine excitement and enthusiasm.

Building this awareness, you not only equip your team with essential tools but also ignite excitement for using HubSpot — setting the stage for increased adoption and long-term business success.

2. Host Targeted Training Sessions

Once your team has a basic understanding of HubSpot, it’s time to deliver more focused, role-specific training.

For me, I always like to start by grouping users by department to ensure the training is tailored to their specific needs. I break them into groups, as follows:

  • Sales team → Sales Hub
  • Marketing team → Marketing Hub
  • Service team → Service Hub

After you divide your teams by department, you will want to break the training into manageable sessions to avoid overwhelming your team. Delivering information in smaller, digestible segments will help users retain more and build confidence in using the platform effectively!

3. Make Training Hands-On

To solidify what your team learns, incorporate hands-on practice by assigning real tasks after each training session.

Practical application reinforces key concepts, helps team members build confidence, and encourages them to explore the platform further in their own time. In fact, hands-on learning has been found to be as much as 50% more effective than traditional learning alone!

Additionally, you will want to encourage your teams to interact with HubSpot daily so they become more comfortable and proficient with its features. Assign practical projects such as:

  • Scheduling a mock social media post
  • Creating an email workflow
  • Drafting and publishing a blog post
  • Setting up a test campaign
  • Assigning a new contact to a pipeline
  • Setting up a custom deal stage
  • Creating and resolving a mock support ticket

Depending on your goals, these exercises allow your team to apply their knowledge in a meaningful way, ensuring they get the swing of using HubSpot for your day-to-day operations.

Note: Encourage team members to bring questions to the next learning session! An interactive session filled with questions fosters engagement and ensures your team feels involved in the learning process. This approach creates a collaborative environment where team members actively contribute to the discussion rather than simply being “talked at.”

4. Provide Ongoing Support & Resources

What happens if you encounter an issue after the training sessions have ended? Or what if you bring a new employee on board who needs to get up to speed with HubSpot?

To ensure long-term success with HubSpot, your teams need a solid plan for ongoing support and access to key resources. Here’s how:

  • HubSpot Expert: Designate an internal HubSpot expert to provide day-to-day support as your team grows. This individual will be the go-to resource for onboarding new members, answering questions, and offering guidance to streamline operations.
  • HubSpot Resources: Take advantage of HubSpot’s robust tools, including the knowledge base, Academy courses, and video tutorials. The HubSpot Academy library offers a wealth of free learning opportunities on topics like content marketing, SEO, sales, and more — empowering your team to continuously enhance their skills.
  • Playbook: Develop a playbook outlining best practices for naming conventions, folder structures, and workflows. This ensures your team stays organized, aligned, and ready to scale effectively.

With these resources and plans in place, your team will be well-equipped to maximize the value of HubSpot and stay ahead!
